Frequently Asked Questions

Scanner

How does the scanner identify cards?

Our scanner uses a high-performance server-side AI engine for complete picture classification and identification. Models are retrained frequently to ensure high accuracy for even the most complex card variants and editions. Please refer to the scan page help window for more information on the best way to use the scanner.

How accurate is the OCR for card numbers?

We've implemented a custom OCR solution specifically for MTG card footers. For good quality images, it provides near-perfect accuracy, significantly outperforming generic OCR tools.

What is "Auto Trigger" and how do I use it?

The Auto-Trigger allows Gestic to decide when to capture the picture of the next card automatically. For best results:

  • Manual Focus: Turn off auto-focus and configure it manually to avoid blurring when dropping cards.
  • Good Lighting: Use a ring light to reduce shadows and reflections.
  • Use a Box: Placing your camera above a small box ensures cards land in the same position every time.

The capture trigger is based on the picture change. Therefore, presenting a new card to the camera will trigger the capture as soon as the picture stabilized. With good hardware, scanning a picture can be under two seconds.

This video shows you the scanner in action.

Can the scanner read card titles out loud?

Yes! We've integrated Text-to-Speech technology. The scanner can read detected card names in their native accent (e.g., French cards with a French accent), allowing you to focus on the cards without looking at the screen. If you hear a wrong title, just pause and review. This option can be enabled or disabled in the scanner option window.

Does it support "The List" and valuable card alerts?

Gestic is one of the few platforms that automatically identifies cards from "The List." No need to configure anything. The set will be detected automatically and the collector number for the card will be adjusted accordingly.

Lists & Collection

How can I manage and compare my lists?

Use our List Operations tool to perform set operations between any two lists. For example:

  • Compare a "Deck List" against your "Collection" to generate a shopping list of missing cards.
  • Or the other way arround. Compare your "Collection" to a "Deck List" to generate the list of remaining cards you have to build another deck.
  • Use 'Analyze deck' option to get an highlight of the cards you are missing to complete this deck.
  • Use 'Adapt with Collection' to automatically substitute required cards with equivalent versions you already own.
What display options are available?

You can choose between a standard list view, a Grid View or a stack with. The Grid View and the Stack View are perfect for decks, allows you to adjust image sizes with a slider, and works seamlessly across phones, tablets, and computers. The list view is very practical when you want to manage your collection or see more information on the screen. To pass from one view to another, just use the using one of the three buttons right above the list header.

How fast can Gestic load large collections?

Thanks to our server-side caching and pagination, Gestic can load lists with over 30,000 cards in just a few seconds while remaining highly reactive. Ordering and filtering very big collections can take a few seconds but still will be very fast to navigate afterward.

What search and filter features are available?

Gestic provides multiple ways to navigate and find cards within your lists:

  • Global Search: Our search tool allows you to find any card across all 100+ lists you might have. It uses fuzzy matching to handle typos and partial names, highlighting the exact location of the card once found.
  • Name Filter: In any list view, you can filter content by card name directly above the column header.
  • List Tags: You can add tags to your lists and filter the home page to show only relevant lists, making large collections easier to manage.
  • Advanced Filters: Filter by Set, Rarity, Quantity, Finish (Foil/Etched), and even specific Types or Subtypes (e.g., "Creature — Frog").
How can I remove a card from a list?

On the home.html page, you can remove a card by simply mouse-hovering the price or flag text of the card to open the edition popup. From there, you can either reduce the quantity or click the (X) icon to delete the entire line.

How to remove a card

Please note that this popup is only available on the Home page. On the Scan page, you must use the "Review Scans" window to delete cards by navigating to the card and clicking the garbage icon, as the hover popup will not appear there.

How can I backup my collection?

Thanks for Gestic being hosted for you, there is no need to backup your collection. You can access it from any device, from anywhere, at any time! You can still export your collection in many different formats, but you don't need to worry about doing any backup.

Adding Cards

What is the "Add by Set" feature?

Perfect for older cards where collector numbers are missing. To use it, simply select a list and a set. You'll be presented with visual placeholders for every card in that set. It is designed to make adding cards as smooth as possible:

  • Visual Selection: You will see all cards from the set, typically ordered exactly like your physical cards if you've sorted them alphabetically.
  • Live Inventory: Under each card, you'll see how many you already have in your collection. If you have none, a placeholder appears to quickly add them.
  • Flexible Controls: Use the Green (+) button to add new lines for different finishes (Foil/Etched), conditions, or languages. The Red (X) allows you to remove entries instantly.
  • Simple Navigation: Just scroll, watch, and click. There's no need to type names or collector numbers—perfect for Lorwyn, Eclipsed, or any older sets.
Can I add cards by name or collector number?

Yes, we offer several high-speed manual entry methods:

  • Add by Name: Enter up to 100 cards at once. Our intelligent lookup finds matches even with typos and supports all MTG languages.
  • Add by Number: Great for recent sets. You can quickly type a list of collector numbers. To add a foil version, simply suffix the number with a star (e.g., 142*) or use the "F" flag (e.g., 142 F).
  • Multipliers: You can specify quantities easily, like LCI 301 x4 to add four copies at once.
Does Gestic support bulk imports (e.g., booster boxes)?

Absolutely. You can upload CSV or TSV files to import hundreds of cards in seconds. This is the fastest way to log an entire booster box or migrate from another platform. Gestic will provide details on the number of new cards added and their total market value.
